I keep a UV-K5(8) as my secondary emergency radio. The password protection gives me peace of mind knowing my emergency frequencies are secure. The wireless replication means I can update settings from my primary radio without cables in a crisis. Battery life with the larger 2500mAh cell is impressive. I also use the air band receive regularly for situational awareness. The scrambler encryption is a nice touch for sensitive communications. I owned the original UV-K5 and was hesitant to upgrade. Glad I did. The UV-K5(8) fixes everything I wished was different on the original.
